Kawaii Food!

Japan is known for their super adorable bento boxes. Bentos can be arranged in a style called “kyaraben” (“character bento”). Kyaraben are typically decorated to look like popular characters from Japanese cartoons (anime), comic books (manga), or video games. Another popular bento style is “oekakiben” or “picture bento”. This is decorated to look like people, animals, buildings and monuments, or items such as flowers and plants. They come up with clever ways to mimic characters or designs out of just food. Some creations are so pretty it would be hard to eat!

C A K E P O P S

This weekend I made about 100 cakepops, which took about 8 hours (only because I’m a perfectionist). I made them to raise money for a summer trip to the British Isles and also because I enjoy making them, despite how long it takes. Each batch of cake makes about 50 cakepops, and I baked a batch of vanilla and a batch of red velvet. Originially, I wanted to bake a batch of chocolate cake too, but reality struck and I was in no shape/mood to make 150 cakepops by myself. Instead, I spilt the vanilla cake in half and made 25 nutella cakepops (yes, it tastes as good as it sounds..or at least I hope so). I also wanted to decorate some of the cakepops as Baymax, but it’ll have to wait another day because, of course, it’s currently 11:29 PM and I need a nap. Maybe it’ll be in my next blog post!
